Nieuwe krantenknipsels

These include articles about Christine Gallas de Calonne as member Catholic tennis club on Waterlooplein (Batavia), Albertine de Calonne-Smith about the kite fighting-adventures of her son René de Calonne, about Johanna Elly de Calonne as a leader of the vacation camps for children in Batavia at the end of the twenties of the 20th century, Anita de Calonne about a school reunion (Balikpapan) and the so-called “Kris of Knaud”, the oldest kris in the world.

Leader at a children’s camp
The first article, from TongTong (August 15, 1970), is about Johanna Elly de Calonne. For several years she was a leader at at the “Children’s Holiday Colony” in Batavia. The article gives some background about the camp and contains two pictures whit Elly de Calonne on it. One is a group photo, with Elly sitting on the handrail of the chair on the right. The other picture is one of the dining room, with Elly sitting on a decorated chair in honor of her birthday.

Tennis
The second article is about Christine Gallas-de Calonne (born Ketahun 1919). In Moesson magazine (November 1997) she was named in the caption by a photograph of the Catholic tennis club on Waterlooplein, Batavia. Apparantly she is one of the ladies behind the net (probably the middle one). The photo was taken in 1933.

Kite fighting
The third item is from the March 2003 edition of Moesson magazine. It is an article by Albertine “Dot” de Calonne-Smit (born Batavia 1924). She writes about the hobby of her son René: kite fighting. The article also contains a picture of René while he is kiting.

School reunion
In the January 1983-edition of Moesson magazine I found an article about a reunion of the schoolchildren of Balikpapan (Indonesia). Anita Monica de Calonne attended the reunion and reported about the slideshow.

Mysterious kris
I also found articles in Moesson magazine about the “Kris of Knaud”, the oldest kris in the world. The person who originally received the kris from a ruler of the Sultanate of Yogyakarta was Charles Knaud. Charles was related to Francois Joseph de Calonne, the father of August Gerard de Calonne. Francois Joseph was married to a younger sister of Charles Knaud: Maria Jacoba Cornelia Knaud. That makes Francois Joseph a brother-in-law of Charles Knaud.
Much has been written about the kris of Knaud, for example on the Dutch Wikipedia and more extensively on the English Wikipedia.
A first article on the kris in Moesson magazine is from 1989 and was written by distant relative J.M. Knaud. He writes about the fact the kris is lost. And then in 2003 there’s an article in Moesson about how the kris has been found again after nearly 100 years.
